Would a single goldfish grow in a 10 gallon aquarium?
i have 1 lionhead ranchu in a 10 gallon aquarium according to the gallon by inch law goldfish need at least 10 gallons each. Would he grow his full size in this aquarium?
i also have a 75 gallon with 4 goldfish. The reason why im asking its because they just gave me the ranchu and dont want to place in the 75gl aquarium due to overstocking. I want to know if it would be allright if i just keep the ranchu in the 10 gallon untill i finally upgrade to the 100 gallon tank! that way each goldfish would have 20gl each
They are all fancys i have 2 ryukins and 2 lionhead ranchu

1 inch per gallon is complete BS for anything that grows over an inch or two, and sometimes even for those little fish. Every species has unique needs that this simply doesn’t cover.
The general rule for Fancy Goldfish is 20g for the first +10g for each extra one. So by that you can easily add your new goldfish in with the rest, provided there is no massive gap in their sizes. A 10g will do ok for a while, but he most definitely will outgrow it. So at best you can keep him in the 10g until he’s big enough to join the others, but living for the long term in there will most likely stunt him.

he may but its best to monitor how big he is getting and offer him more room when he has less room.

There is no definite rule to stocking a fish tank. Can you imagine a 10 inch fish living in you’re tank and turning around? The poor thing would be cramped, that’s assuming it would get to be that big.
You’ll need a tank 3x that size. Goldfish get large so they need large tanks, and they are messy so they need heavy filtration. The large volume of water also helps with the water quality because the nitrate will be more dilute. Your goldfish will grow, but not as much as it should. Eventually it’s growth will be stunted. The outside will stop growing but the inner organs will keep growing which will eventually lead to a premature death. You’re tank will work for now but you’ll need to upgrade soon.

that’sabsoloutly fine, a fancy goldfish needs 10 gallons each and seeing as yours is 10 gallons that’s great. He probably will get alot bigger but it’s unlikely he’ll out grow it, atleast not for a few years.
If your 4 other goldfish in the 75 gallon are fancy’s then you could put the ranchu into that tank. They need 10 gallons each. so you’d still have 25 gallons left over with them all in, and you’re planning to upgrade which is even better! If they are Comets/Commons they need 20 each though.
good luck, sounds like you have loads of space
