One thing that goldfish need is air mixed in with their water, they filter in air through their gills, they aren’t labrynthe breathers (surface breathers). They like cooler temperatures, but obviously not too cold (especially no ice…) So you can add a little fountain or waterfall to it to mix in air (when the water pours into the pond, it’ll do the job) and run it often during the day.
One thing you can do is add water plants to the pond, this can help quite a bit in keeping the water a little more stable for your fish. They also make shade for the guys to hide in when direct sunlight’s too much.

When the ice gets 1" thick on top - they can’t get enough air.
