I will say about 6 months.. they should be about 5-6in’s big.. Only 2 u can get a 35-40gals tank for them.
Good luck and hope it helps!

do you mean upgrade to a bigger tank, or add more fish?

I’d start looking at the local paper classifieds, Craigslist, freecycle and see what options you have for a cheap 75 gallon tank. Since there’s no current rush (within the next 4-6 months is my suggestion) this gives you a chance to look for lower cost options without rushing into anything.

It also allows you to put some fish food into the new and empty tank and to make a used gravel "tea bag" to help cycle the new tank and get everything ready for the big day.

You will not need to upgrade at all so long as you make sure you do regular water changes and maintain the water quality. The rule for fancy goldfish is 2 gallons of water volume per inch of body length (not including fins) in the aquarium, with ten gallons being the minimum no matter how small they are.

People on here often grossly overestimate how much water volume goldfish need. Especially fancy varieties. 20 gallons is plenty for two medium sized Pearlscales and probably would be fine for two large Pearlscales as well.

That being said, more water volume is never a bad thing, especially if you want your fish to grow big. They would be extremely happy with a 75 gallon, and you could even add more fish.
