What do I feed my fish if I’ve run out of food and can’t get more for another 2 days? Calico fantail goldfish
I don’t want them to die and don’t know how long they can live this way. I’ve dropped a little alfalfa sprouts in the tank but they don’t seem interested.

Goldfish can live weeks, and in the right conditions, even months without food. 2 days is a walk in the park for them and you can leave them without worry.

It would be better to not feed them anything, than to try to experiment with food that could harm them.
They will survive very easily without food for a couple of days. When you are able to feed them again (asap) don’t give them too much in the first meal, to give their tummies time to adjust.

2 days is not a big deal. I wouldn’t even worry about it. I don’t even feed the goldfish in my pond over the winter…and they do great. But if you insist, you could give them small pieces of bread. Sometimes, I feed the fish in my pond cheese puffs, but I don’t recommend doing that with the fish in your tank.

Don’t worry most fish can last for weeks without food if you treat it properly. Try to feed them some little crumbs of bread. But not a lot cause then you will fog up the water.

wholemeal bread. earthworms, woodlice, sweetcorn, flies moths etc but they will be fine anyway.

Just wait until you get new food they can make it. What concerns me is that you run out of food. You fed all the food in a jar? You know it goes bad in a couple of months and should not be fed anymore to your fish. This is why goldfish get swim bladder problems, like floating and upside down swimming. You would not eat a steak left out on the counter for months would you? It would make you terribly sick. So does the rotten goldfish food. A varied diet of fresh goldfish food and some veggies or brine shrimp, a couple of times a week for a treat, will do the goldfish good.
