Need Expereinced Gold Fish Owner to Advice..Fin Rot and Fungal Infections?
Oh Gosh! Ive had clean water for my 4feet tank with 9 Goldfish Lionhead Ranchus in it. Just last nite, Ive noticed there is an whitish growth on one of the fish’s head. Ive decided to get this yellowish powder thing which claims to heal fungal infection in fishes and put in into the water. Fine..then this morning from where the whitish spot on the fish’s head is a huge gapping hole! And Ive noticed also that the other fishes have their tails and fins like rotting away. Help!!! How do I prevent fin rot and fungal infections once and for all? Whats the best way to cure fint rot and fungal infection in goldfishes? Help Help Help

The white spot on the head sounded like new wen growth but since it became a hole it must be some sort of disease. The first thing I would suggest is checking the water params. If there is any ammonia or nitrite do water changes to bring them down to zero and if the nitrates are higher then 20 then bring them down to around 10-20, if the water is off then no medication will work. I have never had a fish with those problems but you can join http://www.kokosgoldfish.invisionzone.com/forum/index.php? The people over there are very knowledgeable about goldfish diseases and can help you out a lot better.

i use this stuff called melafix. at least that’s close to the name. it is kind of a cure all for fish. the downside of it is you have to clean the tank again about a week or 2 after you treat it. it works really well. one of my fish had blood in his fins really bad. i thought he was going to die. i put that stuff in with him and he healed up in about 2 days.

the yellowish is called pomad.
if 1 of the fish is sick in some kind of ich or fungal. it will work if there not in your main tank. separate the sick one into another bowl n then por the yellow powder ( not much) n leave if for several Hours n change the water again then pour it pomad again. wait until it heals. clean the fish first on running water then put it back to ur tank.

i dont know what kind of medicine you just used but i would treat the tank with an antibiotic first, then change the water and treat with salt, whatever amount is recommended on the package - use double the amount as a treatment, then watch your fish to see if any redness going away, it not then change water and treat again with salt, that should cure it
good luck
