If you have a 10 gallon tank, then you can keep shrimp (not like small ones, because the betta will eat them, just use common sense) and corycats. The platy is kind of one of those that some bettas don’t get along with because they have similar looking heads and bettas can misidentify them for other males, so it really depends on the fish. If you want to get some and put them next to the tank and see if he flares, then go for it, but there are not gaurantees. Goldfish are a big no no unless your tank is like a 50 or more. I hope this was helpful, good luck.

no, betta fish fight
January 16th, 2010 at 14:47

January 16th, 2010 at 14:47

January 16th, 2010 at 14:47
THESE PEOPLE KNOW NOTHING. they are all noobs. don’t listen to any of them.
you can, but only if the tank is very large, they just need their space.
January 16th, 2010 at 14:47
Nope, betta fish fight with other fish and kill them.
Yeah, they’re pretty violent things.
January 16th, 2010 at 14:47
awful idea, betas are brutal, but my kitty love them
January 16th, 2010 at 14:47
NO!
January 16th, 2010 at 14:47
it will kill the other fish
January 16th, 2010 at 14:47
i wouldn’t unless you want the beta to eat all your other fish
January 16th, 2010 at 14:47
no, the betta will kill the other fish. even another betta.
January 16th, 2010 at 14:47
Betta fish will kill everything
January 16th, 2010 at 14:47
no the betta will eat the other fish
January 16th, 2010 at 14:47
oh noes!
your beta fish will kill ur other fish! seriously, i kno it sounds crazy cut its just a tiny thing without horns or fangs or anything but it really will kill ur fish so i’d keep him separate if i were u!
January 16th, 2010 at 14:47
No male and male or female and male and be in the same tank. And a 10 gallon and more with a heater and filter is better.
No goldfish with tropical fish, they get to big and not compatible.
Platies are in the second picture and are fine.
Shrimp are fine, ghost/amano/crystal red/cherry red/bamboo.
And Corydoras are fine as well, best 3-4 in a shoal.
I have a 29 gallon with platies, corys, guppies, loaches, neon tetras.
5.5 gallon with white clouds and a male crowntail.
With all the other posters saying betta will kill or eat other fish that is wrong. It is pretty horrible to see how people keep saying the same thing that are wrong against bettas. This is as bad as people still misnaming them as Japanese Fighting Fish -_-"".
January 16th, 2010 at 14:47
hell no dude, your other fish will die FAST!!
January 16th, 2010 at 14:47
not unless you want to have dead fish a few hours after you him in…
betta arent supposed to go with ANY fish ever.
they are supposed to have their own seperate bowl all alone because they are vicious.
if you put a mirror to it, itll try to fight itself.
January 16th, 2010 at 14:47
NOPE the betta will probanly attack the other fish.
January 16th, 2010 at 14:47
Nope, betta fish are very aggresive fish. And tend to fight other fish. They are best kept in a tank alone.
January 16th, 2010 at 14:47
alrighty, that would be really STUPID 2 put betta fish together with any fish. didn’t the people at the pet store tell u that?
January 16th, 2010 at 14:47
i think that betta fish only fight with other betta fish and I think its only males that fight. You could probably go to a pet store that and ask..they are usually pretty helpful
January 16th, 2010 at 14:47
Well when we added betta fish into our tank they didn’t fight the other fish or each other. They mostly stayed in the corners of the tank (just the male bettas the females swam around in the corners, but they were visible) I say you buy one and see, if it starts to eat your fish just take it back.
January 16th, 2010 at 14:47
Betta’s need stagnant gross water (they breathe air). The others need fresh flowing water (they breathe water). Betta’s are also very territorial.
January 16th, 2010 at 14:47
What knowledge I have about bettas, you shouldn’t put other fish with them. They are very combative and territorial. I’ve been told they will even kill other bettas. Esp. male and females in the same fish tank. Good luck with your decision and hope your other fish survive, if you opt to make them residents with your bettas.
January 16th, 2010 at 14:47
It’s okay with some fish. (I did and it was fine) But bettas are very aggressive fish and will go around terrorizing the other fish in the tank. If that doesn’t happen then some of the other fish will be attracted to your betta’s fins and attack it (that also has happend so me). I wouldn’t do it, just to be safe…
January 16th, 2010 at 14:47
not realie.for Betta’s eat other fish and fight them.
January 16th, 2010 at 14:47
Betta males are not compatible with any other fish. I would not chance it. Nice looking fish tank by the way.
January 16th, 2010 at 14:47
no betta fish fight and will kill other fish believe me i know from experience..
so yah in answer to your question do not put other fish in with your betta unless you want the other fish to die..
January 16th, 2010 at 14:47
i wouldnt do it.
and deff dont put two male betta fish together.
they will fight to the death
January 16th, 2010 at 14:47
Yes. It is safe to put ONE of those betas in with the fish in that other tank. My only concern would be that you already have a lot of fish in the other tank…. there may not be enough room.

January 16th, 2010 at 14:47
Yes, you can put Bettas together and with other fish. You need to have a large enough room though so if they do start to fight. Male bettas will only fight to the death if stuck in close quarters; if they have enough room the looser will simply swim away to a different part of the tank.

Must be a record for the most wrong answers to one question.
You can keep betta with other fish, but you do need to choose the tankmates with care. Male betta are aggresive with each other, only one of them per tank. Also dont mix male and females unless they are breeding, they will also fight. Females can be kept in a group.
As for tankmates, avoid gourami or male guppies and other long finned fish. They are too much like betta and may get attacked. Avoid most cichlids and barbs, they will make mincemeat of a slow swimming betta. (betta are agressive, but not actually very strong fish. Their long fins slow them down and make them a target for fish that are actually tough)
On your list, platies, shrimp and cory cats will be fine. No goldfish, they grow too big to live with a betta. But there are lots of fish that can live quite happily with a betta, or a group of females. The other day I saw one living with Discus fish, no problems.

Good luck sifting through all these terrible answers…Go with what Darryl and Ianab say. It’s ok to put bettas with some fish, as long as they are in a 10 gallon minimum. Everyone needs their space. Goldfish are not compatible, but shrimp, platies, and corydoras catfish are. They should also have a heater and filter. They are not vicious killers that have to be kept in bowls, that’s an absolute myth.
Sorry Dweeb, but last time I looked a mud puddle was not the same thing as a rice paddy.
January 16th, 2010 at 14:47
Yes you can put them with other fish, but not with some of the ones you have listed. BTW, those are not Lionhead goldfish, they are Red Capped Orandas… if you bought them as Lionhead, someone sold them to you wrong. Looks like you have some comets too…and black skirted tetra(black widow)… and gouramies…
The platties, cories, and shrimp are fine, but the goldfish shouldn’t be with any of these!!! Goldfish are cold water fish and produce too much ammonia. You should never mix goldfish (of any kind…oranda, moore, sarassa, comet, etc…) with tropical fish (platties, gouramis, bettas, etc…).
Also how big is this tank? It doesn’t look big enough. I am glad you are asking, but I wish you had asked before you bought those other fish! You should consider re-homing your goldfish into a pond or much larger tank, then the remaining fish should be ok.
January 16th, 2010 at 14:47
no..they are only allowed with certain fish.
January 16th, 2010 at 14:47
if i was u i would lesson to the fish Doctor because he help my fish
January 16th, 2010 at 14:47
ok first thing, get your goldfish out of there, goldfish are coldwater fish and cannot live with tropical fish, you’d end up killing one or the other.
bettas would be fine with anything that doesn’t look like another betta, i think your platies, shrimp and catfish should get along fine with your betta. make sure your tank is big enough, and add some driftwood and plants here and there to ensure a peaceful tank.

well only if you want the other fish to die
January 16th, 2010 at 14:47
Ok, listen to the Dweeb—
Bettas originally live in rice patties—Mud Puddles. They do not require much space at all.
Other fish are fine with bettas. They don’t like other bettas, though.
Good luck.
