Fish take water into their mouths and pass it over the gills which inturn remove the dissolved O2 from the water. Returning the depleted water out thru the gill slits. All fish must do this to breathe.
If your fish are respirating more than usual, you may have a depletion of DO2 in the tank. You can drop the tank water 1/2 inch to allow for more to enter the tank. Also, warmer water has less D02 check your temperatures and be sure they are not too warm.

absolutely:)

yes, they are forcing water through their gills to get O2 out of the water.

Yes, mine do that all the time.. They are fish…

yeah that is normal if you walk in to a fish store and look at all the fish they open and close there mouths.

They are trying to communicate with you. Try to listen carefully to what they say, it could be important!

They breath through thier mouths, as they don’t have a nose.
January 19th, 2010 at 05:17
Yes. They’re breathing. Water goes in their mouths out their gills, oxygen go into their bloodstream.

It’s normal thats how they intake their oxygen, watter passes through their gills so they can "breath"

They need more oxygen in the water..try getting that thing that creates bubbles in the water from the pet store for a few dollars and change the water more frequently..that should help.

Yes, the more they move about and get excited, the more they need to breathe, like after a run you’ll breathe a bit more, just the same for the fish…

definatley! its normal no need to worry
January 19th, 2010 at 05:17
Yes it is!

Maybe you need to add an air pump or some live plants to put more oxygen in the water. Far as I know though their behaviour is normal. It helps move water over their gills so they can breathe.

yes this is apart of them rushing the water over their gills to extract oxygen. Make sure the water is well oxygenated and make sure you have a proper tank. Gold fish can leap out of a small bowl. that happened to my first gold fish. Good luck!

erm yes the fish is breathing easy 2 points haha
January 19th, 2010 at 05:17
Yes, they do this to breathe through their gills and their mouth. It doesn’t mean that there is anything wrong with your fish!
Good luck!

Yes, this is their way of respiration.
