i have a question about betta fish and black moor goldfish?
Does anybody know if it is a good idea to combine these two fish?We had the betta in with a fancytail goldfish, a bala shark, and 2 other female bettas. The fancytail and bettas arent supposed to be in the same tank but they did fine. The problem is that the other 2 bettas gang up on the one i want to move and the only other place to put it is with my black moor fish. Can anyone help? Thanks to everyone who answers in advance!

Its been with the fancytail goldfish for over a month and has no problems and they DO get along. They dont just tolerate each other. both of the fish tanks are set to the right temperature for both of the fish.Just thought that I might let people know that female bettas can be housed together just as long as you have 3 gallons for each fish and the females wont fight to the death.

a month is not long enough to be able to tell if fish are going to get along in the long term. if you’d said 5 years maybe i’d have thought otherwise.
your current set up is ill-advised and you don’t mention tank sizes, this is critical.
if your male betta is being picked on (which females will do, they are perfectly capable of killing him) do not put him with a goldfish. goldfish, not only have the temperature and waste differences, are also notoriously nippy and is likely to nip your betta until it’s large enough to swallow it.
get your male betta a 3 gallon plus tank for himself.
female bettas really should be in groups of 5 or more as you’re finding out, they can be exceptionally fiesty and will set up a heirarchy. you can’t set up a heirarchy in a pair and the less dominant female is likely to get bullied once the male is gone.
balas need to be in groups of their own species in 6ft+ long tanks. he’ll get to 12" long.

No. Goldfish are coldwater fish, while bettas and balas are both tropical fish. They didn’t "get along fine." They tolerated each other because your forced them to be in the same tank together. You should never keep male and female bettas in the same tank together. Nor should you be housing less than 4 females together in one tank if you want to make a proper sorority tank. They will pick on the other one until it dies from stress. You should get them a bigger tank, get some more or split them all up. Don’t put them in with the goldfish.

Moors will produce poop and pee that will be harmful to bettas. They are messy fish.
Moors are cold water fish that need temperatures BELOW 60 degrees Farenheit. Bettas are warm water fish who need temperatures ABOVE 80 degrees.
Moors should only be with goldfish, and need 10 gallons all to themselves.
Moors are vegetarians who do well on flake food.
Bettas are carnivores who need specially produced pellets to survive. NO goldfish flakes!!! Hikari pellets are best.
Bettas are aggressive. They will chase and harass any fish that is in the tank with them. Bettas in the same tank will fight to the death, other fish run away with ripped fins.

black moors can be with any other cold water fish and the male betta should’t be with females..
my male betta gets along great with my bala sharks, rainbow sharks, mollys, platys… and i have 3 male bettas (never seperated from birth and have lived together for two years) that live with feeder guppies and young platys and mollys. if you have a laid back betta it could be with other tropical fish. just not fin nippers like tiger barbs.. violent lil things… hah
