Do goldfish keep growing on the inside but not on the outside if their bowl is too small?

If this is true, won’t you have to keep getting bigger and bigger bowls/tanks like that Dr. Seuss book "A Fish Out of Water"?

    yes, it’s called stunting.. it’s also why bowls are crappy inventions that lead to the premature death of countless living things, and why goldfish are best reserved for ponds
