I think it would be perfectly fine (with proper cleaning). There are multiple ppl who highly disagree but there has been no prob with my fish. It is probably better with a live plant to oxygenize the water tho. it just requires alot of cleaning!

you know how carnival fish only live a week…..
cause most people just stick em in a bowl
fancy goldfish get about 8” to a foot, and make LARGE amounts of waste
a goldfish should be kept in at least a 20 gallon tank for one, 30+ for 2, and a 55 for 3…
for a 20 gallon tank with a filter and greavel and some plants it should only be about $100
and that’s just for fancy goldfish.. the regular and comet kinds are really best reserved for ponds and can reach 2 or more feet in length

A goldfish requires a minimum of a 20 gallon tank with good filtration.

Gold fish should be in a proper tank. When taken care of, they can live to be 20 years old, and grow to be 8 in. long. Goldfish can even be taught simple tricks. If they are kept in a bowl they usually only live a few weeks or months. You should keep goldfish in 20 gallons for one and 10 for each additional goldfish.

You can… but I wouldn’t. The reason why is goldfish and koi in general produce more ammonia and waste then most any other fish out there! It is generally why you see gold fish only with other gold fish. Other fish simply cannot survive with them! They "pee" too much! Some people have had luck in a bowl… but that is just because of just that… Luck! I would recommend a 29 gallon or larger with a good filter like an aquaclear 50. Also add a bubbler to the tank for oxygen. Some people might even argue a 50 gallon should be used for gold fish. I would certainly not disagree with them.

The rule of thumb for fish owners is 1 inch of fish for every gallon of water. So for example if you have a ten gallon tank you could get four 2 inch fish this way they all can swim peacfully with out the tank being too over crowded. It won’t last very long if you keep it in a bowl and remember that it will grow verrrry large. So if all goes well and dandy and it grows up to full adult size it can get up to 26 inches or a bit more!. All gold fish live in cold water so you dont need a heater to heat the tank just make sure you add the dechlorinizer drops and just follow the directions on the bottle as to how much to put in the tank. VERY IMPORTANT! So you would have to accomadate the fish to the proper tank size as I mentioned above. Its best to get a 20-30 gallon tank for now and then upgrade this way here you will be ok for awhile. There are packages that you can buy that comes with everything in them you would need. Heres a list anyway:
* Large fish tank
* Large net
* Large bottle of dechlorinizer
* Goldfish flakes
]*Cover with light needs to be the same size
*Gravel (ie. 30 gallon would need 6 five pound bags of gravel
* Air stone and pump for the exact size of the tank
* Filter that fits the size of tank
* Decorations of your choice including either plastic plants or live
* Water test kit for freshwater fish
* Book on how to take care of tanks and gold fish
*A Thermometer either metal or the stick on ones
* A tank stand sturdy solid one(make sure that your tank will hold and that its not on a floor that will be weak. Always keep away from direct sunlight and never keep the light on for more than 6 hours a day other wise green alge will start to slowly form ugh.
* Additional filter cartridges
*A gravel syphon to clean the tank every month
*A few power strips to accomodate all of these listed above power sources
*A tube brush to get inside the filters tubes and clean out the building debris. (located in the fish dept.)
and of course 1 gold fish. Black, white, white and orange, or just orange.
The price can range from $75-$500. Depending on what kind of fish tank size you get and what type of brands you get for all of these accessories. Try to find a 30 gallon or bigger kit this way you will already have everything you need. It is very important to have a responsible adult syphon the tank (gravel vac. the tank one time a month and change the filter cartrige inserts as well and wash all with just warm water and an old tooth brush all of the debris including the waste and food off of the decor. Just rinse them and give them a quick once over. You will also need to spot clean the inside of the tank and also unplug the filter box and rinse this out. Especially what they call the impella. You will learn all the ins and outs of taking care of a fish tank and gold fish once you read up on it VERY IMPORTANT!!

goldfish are not suitable for a bowl, they produce more waste than most fish. And they excrete a hormone that prevents them from growing when they are in a small tank or bowl. It is called stunted growth and it means that they stop growing while their internal organs keep growing and that is how most goldfish die a very slow and pain ful death. Some people brag about their goldfish living for a year, when in reality they were supposed to live for 20+ yrs. fancy goldfish need 20gal per fish and 10gal for every additinal fish.
it is really a myth that a goldfish can live happily in a bowl. Not even with regular water changes.
i hope you are a little more educated about the issue now, and hopefully you can educate someone else about it so this doesnt keep happening!
ps. most petstore employees dont help the cause.
supplies:
20-30gal tank, you can buy one new or check craigslist in your area to buy a cheaper used one. You might find a good deal like i did. You might find a 20gal with filter, hood, light, airstone etc for 50$ or so
you need
tank
filter
gravel syphon (to perform your water changes and vaccum gravel)
gravel
decorations
goldfish food
new equipment might cost you 150$ and up.

No you can’t. A gold fish needs space to swim around and a goldfish bowl is not enough space. You can put a fighting fish in a goldfish bowl. Even one fish, u still can’t.
