Can a goldfish be kept alone for a week?
I am going away for a week and I have someone that is taking my betta fish, but my goldfish is in a 10-gal tank so I can’t bring him anywhere. Would he be alright for a week home alone? Having someone come to the apartment to feed him is not an option. I have a small bowl I keep him in for water changes, should I put him in there and bring him to someone’s house? But if I do that, will they need to change his water while I’m gone? How often?

You can give him a really nice proper meal and he will survive in the tank for the week.
But if you go with the bowl option the water needs to be changed every 3days.
Hope this helps

It would be fine if you bought a fish feeder. They are like $18 that is what i would do

I admit I’m pretty lazy at times with my goldfish and don’t change the water regularlly (about once a month really) I’ve had gold fish forever and had left them alone for several days or more. I would think a week would be fine. Just put a lot of food in the tank and they’ll go hunting for food (what else are they going to do?) Though they could stuff themself and eat it all right away…I think it’ll be ok

Well, fish can only be left alone for 3 days. it will probably be fine in a small bowl and the bowl will only need changed after about a week.

I would put him in the bowl and take him somewhere to be taken care of. Fish need to eat everyday like we do. Although gold fish are usually pretty resilient, he still needs to eat. I think he could probably go 3 days without the water being changed but would change it the 3rd day for sure. Good luck!

No they wont!!!!!!!!!! You have to fed them daily. If not they may die.

Get one of those week or weekend feeders..it looks like a rock but it is all food and just dump it inside the tank and it will release food by itself while you are away…you can get it at Wal-Mart or any store that sells pet supplies..it’s called "Weekend Feeder" just pick the kind for your type of fish..

Hi,
Yes you can, But make necessary arrangements like as you mentioned, No need to worry, Only suggestion is just make sure that you have Water plants in the bowl required to change water at least twice in a week.
Good luck.

Only if you trust that person. Goldfish would have no problem being by itself.

I’ve heard that goldfish can go for a week without food. However, I think a better idea is buying a vacation feeder (ask about it at your local pet store; it’s basically food that breaks up slowly over time for controlled feeding) and putting it in the tank. Also, you’ll want to do a partial water change almost last thing before you leave, because you don’t want the fish’s filth building up on him while you’re gone. Leave him at home; taking him somewhere will just stress him out.
