can 5 small goldfish be kept in a 27 gallon aquarium even when they are full grown?
i have a tetra whisper power filter 60 and a foot long air stone. the only other inhabitants are two medium size crayfish. I have 2 other freshwater cold water set ups suitable for goldfish (2 ten gallons)
right now the goldfish are only about 3 inches long. I m planning to use my 26 gallon for another cold water set up.

No. They can be kept when there small( 1-4 inches), but once they past that, they will need 20 gallons for the first, and ten gallons after that. You could keep a max of two in there( 3 gallons will not make a difference).
Hope this helps!!!
Edit: The one inch of fish per gallon rule does NOT work. A ten inch goldfish can not be put into a ten gallon tank. No rule really works because all fish have different requirements. Also, although its popular to keep goldfish in bowls, its not right. The can grow to a foot or more( with 6-8 inches being more common in aquariums) and need there space. They also can live for many years, but a bowl limits there life span or can even kill them over night( because of ammonia or other factors).

General rule is "1 inch of fish per gallon of water" It depends on what kind of goldfish they are, but I think they will be ok in 27 gallons.

who cares just put it in there. what i don’t get is why people think there isn’t enough space for their pet fish. ok think of it this way, if your house is small, is anybody going to care about if u have enough room? fck no. see how i think of things?

No but you can have 2-3 in there but i wouldn’t risk it as the crayfish will eat them over night

not unless you want them to die

Yes.

27 could hold 2-3 at most.

idk but the crayfish mite eat the goldfish if they are smaller. if not, it shouldnt be a problem.

No, goldfish need 10 each because they produce lotsa waste that can poision them
too much waste is very bad and painful
The reason people care about the size of the fishtank is that if you have a tak too small the body will stop going but the organs will continue.
Sound painful, doesn’t it?

Fish like usually any animal, grow to the size of its environment. They can they will grow bigger but as far as the crayfish are concerned being put with them? i wouldnt trust it to be honest. the cray fish can go after the gold fish. BUT if u buy a special screen to put in the 27 gallon tank (if it is long) u can put them both in the tank and they cant get to each other

Many Goldfish live in little half gallon bowls. I think a 27 gallon tank is adequate for 5 fish.

yeah they should be fine, remember the one inch rule!

i think there is 4.4 litres to a gallon, so that would be 118.8 litres. Thats easily enough room for gold fish. My parents have an 80-90 litre tank (about 18 gallons or something) and they have 10 goldfish in it with no problems at all.
The only thing though will the crayfish eat the fish? i’d put some larger gold fish in so they dont get eaten.

rule of thumb is 1 inch per gallon so yes you can keep 5 gold fish in 27 but don’t add to many because the more fish the more food and waste and that causes ammonia, nitrites, and nitates and all could be harmful 25 years exp

go to http://www.fishlore.com and it will tell you everything

no and the rule of thumb is dumb so dont ever listen to it cuz u cannot fit a flipin 40" fish in a 40 gallon
so 27=3 goldfish at the most
