Am I the only one that keeps mollies and goldfish happily coexisting?

Mollies and Goldfish are meant to be kept in different environments. I’ve had these two types of fish coexisting with no problem in a 10 gallon aquarium. Am I the only one doing this?

No… I know someone who has a 55 gallon tank and she keeps mollies and groumis in the tank with 3 or 4 goldfish she has never had a problem as long as you tend to the tank and take care of it correctly….

Firstly, a goldfish should never, ever be kept in a ten gallon tank. Goldfish grow huge, and are messy fish that produce a large amount of waste compared to other fish. Proper stocking for goldfish is 20 gallons for the first goldfish, and then 10 gallons for each thereafter! And on top of that, double, even triple the filtration recommended for the tank size is needed!

Secondly, mollies and goldfish should not be kept together. They are incompatible when it comes to living conditions. What do I mean? Goldfish are coldwater fish. They need cooler water to be healthy. On the other hand, mollies are TROPICAL fish, they need warmer waters to be happy! For a molly to be in cold water, or a goldfish to be in tropical water, one or the other will suffer. There is no ‘happy range’ inbetween the two temperature ranges that will keep both happy.

Please research your fish, and strive to provide proper care. Ignorance is bliss to you, but death to pets.

Some times the pet shops tell you that to get you to buy two tanks, Never trust them

You can put them in the same tank and they can coexist but they are not thriving. They will live just not as long. And BTW how do you know they aren’t having any problems?? Fish have a way of looking fine one minute and looking dead the next. Actually Gold fish are cool water fish and Mollies , though bred these days for fresh water, are brackish water fish in the wild. If you acclimate them over a long period you can keep them in a salt water tank!
So go ahead and keep them in the same tank, but if you give them the set ups they need your will be amazed at how well they they will do!

I’ve had them together for longer than 5 months now, i have 4 silver mollies and 3 goldfish in 30 l aquarium, they r doing great. I keep temp at 24 degrees C . My goldfish r still small though , they r about 2 to 2.5 cm each and my 3 og my mollies r even smaller in size. I have the only male molly attacking the other females lately, i thought that maybe the goldfish r stressing him, so i removed them for like 5 days now, and the mollies r still same… so i think its not them…
i am not saying that to encourage any to put them together.. i am just talking about my own experience..
    good day everyone..
