Yeah, they’ll be fine. Just drop a little more food in than normal before you leave–not a ton, but some. They will eat the food from the rocks on the bottom for a few days.

well you should find someone, or else dump extra food in the water, kinda like how bears eat alot before they hibernate.
You should really find someone.

They have things at like a PetsMart or PetCO or maybe even Wal-Mart that are called vacation feeders. It’s a block of food they goes at the bottom of your tank/bowl and they will be able to live off that easily. That’s what we do at my house when we are going out of town.
May 10th, 2009 at 21:47
Ya thats fine.. 3 days, it will servive. When you come back though, dont feed it over more for making up the time it didn’t eat. But over all, thats fine.. it will live

I don’t know if they sell them any more now, but you used to be able to buy these little pyramid things at the pet store. They would dissolve over a certain amount of days, so the fish would get fed every day.

they will be ok just put extra food.or take them to the pet hotel lol

Get a really loud alarm clock and set it for whatever time while you are gone. Someone will go into your room to turn it off, and have a note that says “While you’re here, can you feed my fish?”

You can buy some “weekend feeder” they are called…. They concentrated fish food…. U just put them in there water and it dissolves over 3 to 4 days and feeds your goldfish!
Good Luck

I know that for Betta’s the have a block you put in the bowl that will feed them for a week…maybe your local pet store has them for goldfish.
If it’s only 3 days I think it can survive.

Force someone into feeding your fish
just say it would only take a couple minutes and say would you rather have my fish die??
or you could just give them extra food becuase even if they dont eat it all it will float on the ground.. and they will eat it the next day
May 30th, 2009 at 14:55
3 days is fine. The fish will live.
Don’t worry about them.
hey And don’t dump extra food into the tank. Gold fishes have the habit of overfeeding and might die out of indestion. Also.. excess uneaten food will make water dirty and cause all kinds of bacteria and fungi to grow upon them.

No. Goldfish should be fed twice a day as a general rule.
You might could leave them without food, but then you might come back to fewer fish because they will eat each other out of desperation.
Check with your local veteranerian. As odd as it sounds, some vets will board fish as well as other animals.
If not, then beg a friend to do it. Offer money. Sad as that sounds, sometimes people are more willing for a few bucks.

They’ll be fine.
Fish can live 2 weeks without food. If you’re really worried, put in a holiday block, but these are generally quite messy.
You could leave some algae wafers in there (maybe 5?) they are slow release and I’ve found most fish will pick at them.
If I were you, I’d feed them a little extra for about 5 days before (say if you give them two pinches of food…give them 2 1/2). That way, you can absolutely guarantee your fish will be fine.
I’m glad you care about your fish, many owners leave their fish for often up to and over 2 weeks and wonder why they’re dead. A 3 day period is fine, but over a week it pushing it.
Your fish probably won’t even notice
Although they may be mental at feeding time when you come back!
June 6th, 2009 at 19:21
no they can not. i think you can pet shops sell these time release food that dissovle slow in the water, ask a pet shop best thing good luck and enjoy the 3 day trip

how about asking a teacher? or talk to your family nicely and explain that you would do the same for them and make them understand how much you love your goldfish. who got them for you? maybe you could ask that person.
good luck!!

They will be just fine for 3 days with no food. Just make sure that you do a water change before you go because you won’t be there if anything happens. As long as they are healthy and well fed you don’t have anything to worry about. They will, of course, be VERY happy to see you when you return. Especially once they get sight of the fish food container.

Your fish will be fine. Do not feed them any extra and don’t drop in one of those weekend feeders. That will just increase the nitrogen load.
Fish can survive over a week without food. Some folks skip feeding a day or two every week.
Clean the water before you leave, wave goodbye and your buddy will be looking for you when you return.
No problem!

They would probably survive but it is not that healthy. I would get a slow dissolving goldfish vacation feeder. They are inexpensive and they work. I tested mine before I went on vacation. As well as using it on vacation and it worked. Take out what is left before you feed them when you get back though or your water will get very dirty
June 17th, 2009 at 20:48
Goldfish are very good at surviving without food if they need to, if you are only gone for 3 days you can give them a good feed before hand this way they will survive. There are 3 other ways that will work perfectly.
1) You can buy something called a holiday block these can last between 7 days and 14 days, if you do use one of these please for heavens sake remove the block when u get back as they contain a lot of Ammonia.
2) You can buy an automatic feeder but the only problem with these is that they are expensive and you may not get your moneys worth if you are only going for 3days.
3) Fill your aquarium with aquatic plants and aquatic moss goldfish are natural herbivores and will love eating the aquatic plants. these will keep them going till you get back.
Hope all this helps.

I don’t know for how long they can live with out food, but you could do this. Find an old mechanical alarm clock, the one with a little hammer on two bells. Tape to it an A4 sheet of paper that you will fold it verticaly and unfold it. Thus you have like a chanell. Put the other side of the paper on to your aquarium, so it is like a bridge between the alarm clock and the tank, or a bowl. The clock needs to be a bit higher than the tank so the paper chanell has a small tilt tovards the tank.
Then spread the food on the paper.
The vibration of the alarmclock should shake the paper and the food will fal in the tank at every 12 hours for like one minute.
Maybe it would work, I dont know, I never tryed it.
You can adjust that, maybe, by adjusting the hight of the alarmclock to the tank.
I think it is important that it doesn’t drops a lot of food so youdont O.D. the little fish.
Hope you solve this problem of yours.
Buye.

You don’t have a filter either? Make sure the water is clean before you leave, then hope and pray.Leaving a feeder block in there might cause too much ammonia to get in the water, and if you cannot change it for 3 days, your better off not feeding them at all. With no food they won’t produce any waste either.Waste produces ammonia too.
I’d try VERY hard to convince someone to watch them for you.

Fish can actually last a good 3 weeks without food, but you can actually go to the pet store and get something call vacation food for your fish. They’re little tablets that can last for 3-14 days usually (depending on the type you get, of course), and that should feed your two goldfish while you are away. There’s also something called a food despenser that stores fish flakes in it, and drops a certain amount into the tank at the specifiv times given to it.

wow what nice family you have. yes they will live for 3 days without eating. people even left there fish home for a week without anyone feeding them. they will be ok. and if one of them is dead when you come back it will NOT be because they wont be feed. hope i helped.

They make these white weekend feeders in the shape of a turtle that you can get and the fish will eat off of it until you get back!!
June 23rd, 2009 at 18:57
You can safely leave your goldfish without food for 3 days. Since you don’t have a filter, you should only feed your fish every other day anyway. (Using a vacation feeder block is not a good idea as it would only foul up the water in your non-filtered tank) When you get back, do a 25% water change using conditioned tap or distilled water. You should do 25% water changes at least twice a week in an unfiltered tank.
June 24th, 2009 at 16:34
Feed as normal. Just remember to perform a water change right before you leave, and they will have enough freshwater to last until you get back. Most people think fish starve to death, but in reality, you would have to leave them for about 2-3 weeks with absolutely no food before they die. In most cases, it’s the ammonia levels rising that kills fish. Have fun on your trip!
June 27th, 2009 at 02:43
If they were healthy and eating well for past two months then they can last 7 days without food. Trust me, I had to leave my goldfishes for 6 days for a family funeral and when I came back, they were okay and just lost a little weight. They store a lot of fat so don’t need to worry as long as they were healthy and eating well for the past two months. Check out the websites below.
June 28th, 2009 at 04:02
Fish can go fine for 3 days, or more, without feeding. I’d rather risk my fish with that, than someone coming over and overfeeding it.
June 28th, 2009 at 20:03
HI Y2J, Goldfish will be absolutely fine going without food for 3 days-please do not even consider an automatic or holiday feeder. At best they clog up & release nothing & at worst they release everything in one go raising the ammonia level & killing your fish.
I would be far more concerned that I didn’t have a filter, all fish need these to stay healthy & live longer than a few months & I seriously urge you to get one asap-without one your Goldfish may appear ok but he will be suffering, please think about this.

Yes, they will survive 3days without food. Just remember NOT to overfeed them before leaving, as this will contribute to a whole lot of wastes while you are away. Keep the aerator and the filter going, top off the water making sure that the heaters (if any) in well submerged and working properly.

Buy a filter and give them some extra food before you leave. Goldfish can live for a week without food
